A good rule of thumb when you're using high-beam lights is to leave at least 150 meters (500 ft) from any oncoming vehicle so you don't blind the oncoming driver. If you're within 60 to 90 meters (200-300 ft) of the vehicle you are following you must use low-beam lights. This also gives you ample stopping distance.
