Making a turn

Turning left

Before you make a left turn you must check your mirror, then signal for at least 30 meters while you position your vehicle towards the center of the road not beyond the center line. Remember to look over your shoulder to check your blind spot if you have to change lane, and give way to oncoming traffic before you make the left turn. Have a quick glance over your left shoulder, too, before you make the turn, to make sure that no one is trying to overtake you.

Turning right

If you intend to turn right, you should check your mirror, then signal your intention for at least 30 meters while you position your vehicle toward the right-hand lane of the road. Remember to look over your right shoulder if you need to change lane, and give way to traffic already turning to the direction you’re about to turn into.

If you are driving a longer vehicle turning into a narrow driveway, remember that you might have to stay wide to make the turn. In this case it is important that you signal early and slow down early, too, to give drivers behind you enough warning.

Checking in your mirror before you turn right is important to ensure that a cyclist or motorcyclist isn’t riding up the inside.
